If you are selling your home you should always hire an attorney.  Always.  A basic transaction for real estate should not cost you much. Of course, this depends on where your attorney is located but for the most part it should not cost you more than $300-$600 for representation.

Just because you found a house you like and put a deal together don't think you know it all and hire your best friends brother who is a divorce attorney.  If you do you will be sorry.  Why? Simple. If you broke your leg would you go to a doctor who specializes in necks and backs?  I doubt it.  Do yourself a favor and hire an attorney who specializes in real estate closings. 

There are too many emotions when dealing with large amounts of money and real estate so save yourself the pain and go with a specialist who will make your life a lot easier. 

Just because someone is an attorney it does not mean they know every type of law.
