Real Estate March 25th, 2008There is a bunch of chatter about which method works best (new or old) if you are a Realtor trying to get some leads and close deals. Blogging is cool and somewhat useful but it certainly not the “golden ticket” to successful real estate marketing, listing are. Have we all forgot what got us here? My phone rings off the hook when I list a property. I list a lot of them. When i blog, all I get is comments from real estate professionals. What the f*ck does this do for business? This is what we are talking about, right? This is like saying Active Rain brings real estate professionals quality leads. Don’t even say I am wrong. All that AR chatter is coming from those within the community and they do not welcome consumers.
Don’t get me wrong, blogs can help, but they will never out-perform the almighty Listing. Blog all you want, join a social network and put your name out there, but if you want to make some real cash get yourself a f’n listing. Until someone creates a service (i am working on it) that puts your mug directly in front of potential sellers and buyers, blog less and pound that “do not call” list until you have a listing that will help your ROI.
I have one additional piece of advice for anyone who might think “blogging” is more powerful than a “Listing.” Don’t take any advice from someone who has never had a listing or has never received a (buyer/seller) lead from a blog post.
Come on people, step back from the water cooler and check yourself before you wreck yourself.
If you are a real estate professional please read this post and do me a favor and comment.

I’ll have to answer this in 10 to 12 months. Jury is out right now and I, too, am anxious to see where this all ends up. Times they are a’changing.

No shit the times are changing but if it takes 10-12 months to answer this question you might want to find a new profession. I promise if you have one little listing you will find leads right away.

Blogs help but I wouldn’t rely on them to attract business. I agree. Get some listings, take calls and blog in addition. real estate is a referral business, you need to know peps.

Blogging is working for me for generating leads. Also, the most important point is just common sense in business. You can put your eggs all in one basket. Also, businesses throughout our history have had to reinvent themselves and diversify to succeed. WEB2.0 is allowing those smart enough to get on the train early to create an online presence. It is hard work either way you spin the business. Blogging is not easy but it is fun and a great learning experience. I have obtained fantastic ideas around the country. By the way, your colorful language shows a great professionlism. It is no wonder we get so much bad press.

i speak my mind. Look around, boring ad uncontroversial blogs do not get comments. Good luck, if you think you will get page views with boring content.

I will think of you when I close the 1.1 million transaction next week with clients from England that found me on my blog. Keep spending those marketing dollars at paper ads. I will blog for free and even make money from ads. You can even pull your head out of the sand periodically if you want to learn something new.

Blogging is becoming more mainstream, and though AR is community oriented now (i.e. RE community), Localism is being touted as the “go-to” spot for people to find information on communities they want to move into and homes they want to buy. Of course, if agents don’t support AR, as well as Localism, then AR won’t have a chance in this burgeoning blogosphere. On having an internet presence, I have gotten many listings and/or buyers from my presence on the internet. It’s valuable, but blogging for me is secondary to the other work I do. Still and all, I think its importance might be growing.
